Former team India Captain, BCCI President and Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly is all set to receive Z category security in a meeting recently held amongst West Bengal’s Government officials. He is currently working with IPL outfit Delhi Capitals who will be in action tonight against Punjab Kings at Dharamshala in their 2nd last league match.
DC are already out of the Indian Premier League and they have no chances at all to reach the play-offs. They are only playing for pride this season and after tonight’s encounter, Delhi’s last game is up against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Many would wonder why is Sourav Ganguly all of a sudden receiving Z category security in the midst of IPL. It is not because of any political or communal threat that his security is being tightened. Actually, the 50-year-old’s tenure for Y category security has expired and so his security is being upgraded to Z.
“As the security cover of the VVIP expired, a review was done as per the protocol and it was decided to raise Ganguly’s security cordon to Z category.” – an official statement read.
What exactly is the difference between Y & Z security!
Our sources close to the West Bengal government said that previously Sourav Ganguly used to have not more than 3-4 policemen around him from the special branch and a Law enforcer who used to secure his residence at Behala. Whereas now Ganguly will have 8-10 Policemen around him all the time when he returns from his IPL duties with Delhi Capitals.
“Ganguly is currently travelling with his team Delhi Capitals and will return to Kolkata on May 21. He will start getting Z category security from that very day.” the statement concluded.
