Chess and Carrom are two most popular board games in the world where stakeholders of these two sport should be given enough credit especially for Chess to make it the most popular entity.

Chess certainly have reached miles ahead of Carrom, in terms of revenue earned by players and popularity.

Before we dive deep into the difference between Carrom or Chess in the below format but one thing which is common for these two sports- it originated from India, as Carrom used to be played by Indian Maharajas back in his heydays.

Chess is originated by India, as the terms Chess was derived from Sanskrit word Chaturanga which means in English- Four Limbed which clearly refers to ancient army divisions which include-  infantry, cavalry, elephantry, and chariotry.

The game certainly have no time limit but if good players are on the board it might get finished in 30 min-40 min .

In any Chess match is played in different method-blitz and rapid whereas in the latter we have to finish the game in stipulated time period.

My Perspective:

Chess as sport has grown massively in India and credit should be given to All India Chess Federation Headquartered in Chennai.

They have done wonders in terms of framing policy and making sure that Sports reaches towards next level.

Recently Chess Olympiad was organized in Chennai which was conducted successfully in stipulated time period.

India currently not possess more than 90 Grandmasters, most of the players have more than 2000 ELO rating which in itself talks about Chess Powerhouse talent India possess.

Also Chess events are organized at International level, where regular championships is played and credit should be given to world chess federation, for regularly organizing events and making sure top players around the world compete against each other for coveted crown.

In Carrom, Federation needs to work extra hard and ensuring that policies like- revenue generation of players, popularity of players, regular tournaments and expanding game beyond regular boundaries.

Carrom, as sport have tremendous potential, but its just right from the beginning, the policies related to Carrom could have been more dynamic so that sport can be flourished at the highest level.

Particularly in South Asia, the Middle East, and some regions of Africa, carrom is a very popular indoor game. It draws both amateur and professional players and is frequently played in homes, clubs, and tournaments.

All age groups enjoy the game because of its straightforward rules and captivating gameplay. Major carrom competitions are held in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India, which raises its profile internationally.

Additionally, online carrom platforms have increased its global appeal. Although many people play carrom for fun, competitive carrom, like cue sports, demands strategy and accuracy. Its popularity is still rising as a result of its social and accessible nature.

One of the most popular and intellectually esteemed games in the world is chess. With millions of players and grandmasters, it began in India and has since grown into a global sport. The game is now more accessible thanks to the growth of online chess platforms like Lichess and Chess.com.

Events such as the Candidates Tournament and the Chess World Championship draw spectators from all over the world. AI-powered training tools and streaming platforms have contributed to the resurgence of chess.

Chess is used in schools because of its cognitive advantages, which broadens its appeal. Chess is still a game that appeals to people of all ages because it combines strategy, history, and competition.

Overall Chess is Miles ahead of Carrom in terms of popularity, financial aspect and generating interest of fans towards watching this sport.
