The lowest team total by India in a T20 World Cup match came in Nagpur on March 15, 2016, against the New Zealand cricket team. It was a Super 10 Group 2 match of the tournament where the men in blue registered their lowest ever total in T20 World Cup history against the BlackCaps.
Electing to bat first in the fixture, New Zealand registered a poor performance with the bat as they managed to score only 126 runs on a difficult wicket. The pitch had a lot of help for spinners, as New Zealand batters could not take their team to a difficult score. Corey Anderson top-scored with a score of 34 runs in 42 balls, whereas Luke Ronchi provided some life to this score with his 11-ball 21 in the end.

Jasprit Bumrah was the best Indian bowler with a spell of 4-0-15-1 at an economy rate of just 3.75 runs per over as India bowled 12 overs of spin with all three of them taking a wicket each. India had thought of bettering their net run rate and finishing the match early when they saw that they had only 127 to chase, but the New Zealand bowlers had different thoughts.
They bowled exceptionally well and bowled out India for a mere 79 runs in 18.1 overs, registering their lowest team total in the history of the T20 World Cup. The Indian batters got trapped in the web spun by New Zealand spinners as they lost a match that they could have easily won.
Mitchell Santner was the best bowler in the second inning of the match, with bowling figures of 4-0-11-4. He was well complemented by Ish Sodhi (4-0-18-3) and Nathan McCullum (3-0-15-2). The New Zealand spinners took a total of nine Indian wickets on that pitch and took their team to a fabulous victory.
MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli were the only batters who showed some fight from the Indian camp but could not take the team over the line. Mitchell Santner was the player of the match for his stellar performance.
