As we inch closer to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, it is important to look back at a few of the great matches in the history of the T20 World Cup where a team has made a world record or recorded themselves in the history books. We will talk about one such match here, where the New Zealand cricket team scored their highest ever team total in the history of the T20 World Cup.

New Zealand has always been a team that starts the innings with explosive openers, has a few anchors for the middle overs, and then has quality batters who can provide the late flourish to the innings and can make them reach a good total.

A similar kind of thing happened when the Black Caps faced the Australians on October 22, 2022, in Sydney, Australia, which was the 13th match of the tournament. In this match, the New Zealand batters went bonkers against the Kangaroos and made their highest ever score in T20 World Cup history.

After being asked to bat first, the New Zealand openers came out with a striking mindset as Finn Allen launched himself against the Aussie bowlers and hit them all over the park. He scored 42 runs in just 16 balls before getting bowled by Josh Hazelwood and taking the team’s score to 56 runs in no time.

Once they got the start, Devon Conway ensured that the team did not lose out, making a big total, and hence, he held one end, making partnerships with a few of the batters. He played a fabulous innings of 92 runs in 58 balls as he remained unbeaten and took New Zealand’s total to 200/3 after 20 overs, their highest ever in the tournament.

What followed was a phenomenal bowling display from New Zealand, as they bowled out Australia for just 111 runs and won the match comfortably. Devon Conway was awarded the player of the match award for his brilliant innings that helped his team post a record total on the board and beat the home team by 89 runs.
