Inconsistencies in both batting and bowling proved to be the Achilles’ heel for these teams, preventing them from making a lasting impact on the tournament. Let’s find out what goes wrong for a team that didn’t qualify for playoffs.
Chepauk Super Gillies
Chepauk Super Gillies struggled to qualify for the playoffs in TNPL 2023 due to their inconsistent performance throughout the tournament. Their batting lineup could have delivered more consistently, resulting in low scores and often needing help chasing targets.
The lack of partnerships and big innings from their batters was a major setback for the team, except for their first match, where CSG scored 217 runs. In addition, their bowling attack also needed help to contain opposition batters and pick up regular wickets.
Tiruppur Tamizhans
Tiruppur Tamizhans heavily relied on the consistent performances of Suresh Kumar, Vijay Shankar, and S Radhakrishnan in the batting department. These three batsmen were the team’s mainstays, consistently scoring runs and shouldering the responsibility of the batting lineup. Unfortunately, the rest of the batting unit failed to perform always, which put additional pressure on the key batters.
In terms of bowling, P Bhubaneswar and Sai Kishore emerged as the leading wicket-takers for Tiruppur Tamizhans. They were the primary wicket-taking threats and were crucial in restricting opposition teams. However, the team needed more support from other bowlers, which affected their overall bowling performance.
Salem Spartans
Salem Spartans had an average performance in TNPL 2023, with their batting and bowling falling below expectations. Their batting lineup struggled to put up substantial scores, often managing only modest totals.
The team needed consistent run-scorers who could anchor the innings and create pressure on the opposition. On the bowling front, their bowlers should have taken crucial wickets at key moments, resulting in opposing teams not facing challenging targets. The lack of a potent wicket-taking threat made it easier for the opposition to chase down the scores.
Ba11sy Trichy
Ba11sy Trichy experienced a disappointing campaign in TNPL 2023 as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. Inconsistency in both their batting and bowling departments played a significant role in their underperformance. The team struggled to score substantially on the board and faced difficulty chasing even relatively small targets.
A notable example was their match against CSG, where Ba11sy Trichy failed to chase down a modest total of 129 runs and collapsed for just 71 runs. Their bowling attack needed the potency to consistently take wickets, as they could only pick up up to four in any match except one. These issues collectively contributed to their unsuccessful campaign.
