West Indies T20I squad welcomes back Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, and Oshane Thomas
Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, and Oshane Thomas are back in the West Indies T20I squad for the five-match series against India. The selectors are trying out new combinations for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the Caribbean and the USA. Desmond Haynes, the lead selector, said that they want to see more pitches with more purchase for fast bowlers, which is a smart strategy.

The West Indies T20I squad is really shaping up for the five-match series against India! The provisional 15-man squad will be trimmed to a squad of 13 for each game before a final XI is picked. I heard that the selectors are looking for players with a little bit of X-factor, and they chose Oshane Thomas and Shai Hope for their skills. Thomas has come back and worked very hard to get back to top shape and bowling fast again.
The selectors hope to find some fast bowlers in the Caribbean and prepare for the Test series in Australia with six or seven fast bowlers. It’s clear that Hope is batting well enough to play all three competitions for West Indies. The squad is selected with the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in mind, and they are looking to build a unit that they believe can do the job when they host the global event in just under a year.
It seems that Hetmyer, Hope, and Thomas are making a comeback to the West Indies T20I squad. Hetmyer had form and fitness issues that kept him out of the white-ball set-up. However, he recently played two T20s for Seattle Orcas in the USA and scored 299 runs for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL this year. Hope, the West Indies ODI captain, also returned after over a year. He’s only participated in 19 T20Is, with a 121.11 strike rate and a low 17.88 average. Thomas has been brought in to “make a difference with pace.”
They didn’t opt for a leg break-googly bowler for these games. They are still trying to find the right combination because they want to know that they have a T20 team that can be very competitive. Playing at home in the T20 World Cup, they’d like to be very, very competitive.
