The Welsh Fire celebrated a double victory on Thursday, with both their men’s and women’s teams winning their respective matches in The Hundred competition.

The men’s team defeated the Birmingham Phoenix by 6 wickets at the Birmingham, while the women’s team beat the Birmingham Phoenix by 3-run whisker at Birmingham.

In the men’s match, the Fire let the Phoenix bat first and with their brilliant bowling force, they restricted the Phoenix batters to a minimal score of 112 at the loss of 7 wickets. In reply, Welsh Fire batters chased down the target with 15 balls to spare. Stephen Eskinazi won the player of the match for his scintillating 43-run innings.

Whilst, in the women’s match, the Fire were put in to bat and posted brilliant 137 runs for 7. In reply, the Fire’s bowlers got the job done as they restricted Phoenix to 134 for 4 off balls. Shabnim Ismail was awarded woman of the match for her magical bowling spell of 3/31.

The victories were a welcome boost for the Fire, who had lost their previous two matches in the men’s competition. They are now third in the table and they now have equal points with top 2 table leaders.

The women’s team are also in good form, having won three of their four matches so far. They are currently the table topper in the tournament with the 1st position on the table.

The Fire will be looking to build on their recent success when they take on the Southern Brave in the men’s competition on Saturday, and the same opponent Southern Brave in the women’s competition on August 12.

Both Men and Women Teams are super strong and the potential contenders to win the titles. The Fire will be hoping to continue their success in the second half of the competition, and challenge for the title.
