We will see him break many records: Steve Smith on India skipper Virat Kohli

Indian cricket team has kick-started 2020 with back to back series wins in their own home turf. India has recently beaten Australia 2-1 in an ODI series at home. India came from behind to win the series where skipper Virat Kohli performed magnificently and led his team from the front.

Australian skipper Steven Smith has heaped praise of his Indian counterpart Virat Kohli for his exceptional leadership and batting skill. Smith said that he is very excited about the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in his home country and is also very eager to perform well in the new season of Indian Premier League.steve-smith-on-virat-kohli

Smith has been playing brilliantly in the match but his record in the shortest format of the cricket does not reflect his class and talent. Responding to his T20 figures, Smith has said that he wants to play more and more and learn to improve himself before the commencement of ICC’s mega show later this year in his home country.

“No real specific training, but just playing a lot more T20 cricket and just getting the right tempo I guess for the game is the most important thing for me. I would love to be a part of the World Cup, it’s obviously at home in Australia. I was involved in the ODI World Cup here in 2015 and had the most amazing six-weeks of my cricketing career and loved every minute of it. So yeah would love to be involved in another World Cup at home for sure!” he smiled.smith-on-virat-kohli

Praising Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Smith said, “Yeah, he is terrific. His batting numbers just speak for themselves. I think he’s an incredible player in all three formats and I think we will see him break many records. He’s already broken plenty of them and I see him breaking many more over the years. He has got the hunger for runs and doesn’t stop getting them. Hopefully, he can stop getting them against Australia, that’ll be nice.

“As a captain, he’s already made India the number one side in the world in Test cricket. From what I have seen he sets really good standards for them. He is a lot about fitness and is health-conscious and things like that. He’s got the Indian side into a really good place and leads them exceptionally well,” the 30-year-old pointed.

He was also asked about Virat Kohli’s gesture to ask fans to show him support during the 2019 World Cup in England. Smith said that it feels good when you get support from others and it was really nice of Virat to have done that for him.

“In the World Cup, it was really nice of Virat to do what he did. He did not have to do that and yeah it was a lovely gesture and really appreciated that” he smiled.
