Watch : West Ham United star players’ families get attacked by AZ Alkmaar fans during an UECL clash!

East London outfit West Ham United sealed qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League 2022/23 Final after beating Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar by 1-0 last night away at the AFAS Stadion. David Moyes’ side had one foot inside the UECL Final following a 2-1 victory at home a week ago.

At the London Stadium last week, AZ Alkmaar took the lead in the 41st minute through a wonderful effort from Tijjani Reijnders but the visitors eventually lost the tie and failed to have an upper hand. In the 2nd half, Said Benrahma’s 67th minute penalty followed by a goal from Michail Antonio in the 75th minute.

Last night during the 2nd leg, the game was tied at 0-0 until the extra-time when Pablo Fornals made a run all by himself to end the game by 1-0. West Ham proceeded to only their 3rd ever European final by 3-1 on aggregate and first Final since the 1975/76 season.

However, what took place after the match was quite unfortunate. Just like it was about to happen to Barcelona players celebrating in the middle of Espanyol’s home ground, families of West Ham players were apparently going to get attacked by the fans of the losing team.

West Ham United goalkeeper Alphonse Areola said after the match, “They were a bit far from the incident. We were a bit worried about them. Security is the most important thing in a stadium. It was a bit too open for the opposing fans. At the end, they managed to stop them. When families or fans are coming to the stadium we don’t want to see things like that. They want to enjoy the event and we want to enjoy it with them as well. We were worried about them.”

Meanwhile, the Hammers from East London will now face Fiorentina in the Conference League final at the Eden Arena on 8th of June. If they beat their Italian opponents then it will be their 2nd ever European title and first since the 1964/65 season.
