Watch : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee applaud KKR following an 81-run victory!

2-time Indian Premier League champions Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore last night at the Eden Gardens by a huge margin of 81 runs. It was a special evening for Nitish Rana’s side which was playing their first home game of the season and the fans must have enjoyed themselves in a special evening which also saw Shah Rukh Khan support his team.

West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also congratulated the team for their emphatic win over Faf Du Plesis’ side and she also said that the win became even more special because it was in front of the home crowd. “Today’s victory is extremely special because it is also the first match of the season in Eden Gardens Stadium!”

Mamata Banerjee also congratulated each and every player and forwarded her best wishes for the long season ahead. Heartiest congratulations to @KKRiders every single player gave their best. Good luck for all upcoming matches!”

Meanwhile, there were plenty of things that happened during the match. Firstly when KKR came out to bat RCB had broken the back of their batting line up but opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz had given a good start but David Willey ran riots before Shardul Thakur took the match by a storm.

Thakur smacked 68 off 29 and it was only because of his effort that KKR were able to reach 204 runs. It was a very competitive target but RCB were expected to chase the total as they were bolstered by a very good batting line-up. However, Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plesis failed to continue with the start they received.

KKR’s spinning trio of Varun Chakravarty, Debutant Suyash Sharma and Sunil Narine made things worse for RCB and bowled the team out for 123 runs. Meanwhile, KKR will play Gujarat Titans in their next match at Gujarat’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
