There is a common saying among the masses. Once a player, always a player. No matter what is your age or any other restrictions, he remains to be the master of the art. The saying now goes with Wayne Rooney who has impressed the Derby County fans on his return to the English football after a stint at MLS.

After joining the Championship side, Derby County, Wayne Rooney was waiting on his toes to start a game. Even though he joined Derby County long back in November as one of the coaching staff under Coco, he was unable to play as the English transfer window was not open yet. However, when the winter transfer window opened on January 1, the player officially joined the club as a player.

In the debut game for Derby County, Wayne Rooney set up the player through free-kick which helped Derby to score their first goal. Eventually, Derby County went on to win by a scoreline of 2-1 against Barnsley in the game. Also, former Red Devil served a long diagonal ball from the left side of the midfield to set up Martyn Waghorn’s winner. The long diagonal was collected superbly and was finished with ease to seal all the three points for Derby County.

The 34-year-old England international played out of his normal position as a central midfielder after a season-long spell at DC United. When he was playing for DC United, he helped the Potomac Avenue based outfit to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Wayne Rooney also accounted for 23 goals and 15 assists in just 48 games for the US outfit. He played as a striker for DC United. Prior to his arrival, DC United fourth and fifth in 2017 and 2018 in the Eastern Conference. However, the news suggests that the United star was expected to stay back in the United States itself. However, the homesickness combined with the player-coach role pulled the player back to England.
