VVS Laxman reveals his favourite cricketing moment from 2019

Former Team India middle order batter VVS Laxman stated that the year 2019 was a very good one for Virat Kohli and his boys as they took their game to the next level across formats. He also picked out his favourite moment from the year, and mentioned that the sight of the Indian team standing with the trophy after defeating Australia in Australia early in 2019 has to be the most special moment for him and all cricket fans from the country.

India won the first Test in Melbourne in 2018, and went on to lose the second game by a massive margin of 146 runs. However, they came back strongly to win the third Test at the iconic MCG on Boxing Day to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth Test was drawn.

“It’s been a very good year for Indian cricket but being a Test cricketer, my dream was always to beat Australia in Australia but I was not able to achieve that in my career,” Laxman said while speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live Show.

“I’m so glad that this Indian team under Virat’s leadership has beaten Australia for the first time in their own backyard which is my favourite moment of Indian cricket in 2019,” he added.

Irfan Pathan, on his part, picked out the revelation and the improvement of the faster bowlers under Kohli and coach Bharat Arun as his most favourite moment.

“This year we saw India’s fast bowlers bowl beautifully for the country and it’s been one of the best fast bowling line up’s that we have seen,” said Pathan.

“We saw the intent with which they bowled, they came in, bowled hard-swinging deliveries, new or old ball it didn’t matter, I have really seen the growth of Indian cricket especially in terms of fast bowling which has been the highlight for me this year,” he added.

India played eight Tests in 2019, and won seven, with the one draw coming against Australia at Sydney. They won 19 ODIs of the 28 they played and reached the semis of the ICC World Cup as well.
