Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged as the title winner in IPL 2024, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Meanwhile, Harshal Patel of Punjab Kings (PBKS) clinched the purple cap for scalping the highest wicket in the season. This achievement marks the second purple cap for Patel. However, several other bowlers also bowled brilliantly taking the most wickets for their respective teams in IPL 2024.

1. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel, donning the jersey of Punjab Kings (PBKS), spearheaded their bowling attack with a phenomenal performance throughout the season. In just 14 matches, he scalped a staggering 24 wickets, showcasing his accuracy and ability to pick up crucial wickets at key moments. His bowling average of 19.87 shows his consistency, while his economy rate of 9.73 shows his control over the run flow.

This achievement comes as a welcome return to form for Harshal Patel. He has displayed glimpses of brilliance in previous seasons, but in IPL 2024 he scalped most wickets and reached a whole new level. His bowling spells were characterized by clever variations in pace, and the ability to exploit weaknesses in the opposition’s batting line-up. 

2. Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakaravarthy, the wily spinner from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), came a close second with 21 wickets in 15 matches. His ability to deceive batsmen with his variations and control over flight made him a nightmare for many expert batters. 

3. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, the spearhead of the Mumbai Indians (MI) pace attack, lived up to his reputation by grabbing 20 wickets in just 13 matches. His express pace and lethal yorkers continued to be a potent weapon. His economy rate of just 6.48 reminded everyone why he is considered one of the best fast bowlers in the world.

4. T Natarajan

T Natarajan, the left-arm pacer from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), showcased his bowling skills, taking 19 wickets in 14 matches. His ability to exploit any conditions and find the yorker at the death proved valuable for SRH.

5. Harshit Rana

Rounding out the top 5 was Harshit Rana of KKR. This young talent impressed everyone with his consistency, taking 18 wickets in 13 matches. His accurate fast bowling and ability to swing the ball made him a vital cog in KKR’s bowling attack. 

The battle for the Purple Cap is always fierce competition, and IPL 2024 was no different. While Harshal Patel emerged victorious this time, the other bowlers on the list also displayed exceptional skills. In the next edition of IPL, one thing is certain – the fight for the Purple Cap will continue to push bowlers to think out of the box and bowl brilliantly.
