umpiring

The Indian Premier League is on the verge of completing its 16th edition this season. The game of cricket is played with rules decided on and enforced by ICC, the governing body for Cricket. There have been matches in the history of the Indian Premier League when the umpires failed to deliver the right decisions and hence making the gentlemen’s game go partial. Following are such poor umpiring from 5 matches in the history of the Indian Premier League that went wrong.

1. RCB vs PBKS 2021: Devdutt Paddikal given unfairly not Out

In a match between RCB and Punjab Kings in the 2021 IPL, a review was referred to the third umpire regarding whether Paddikal was out or not. Despite the clear evidence that the ball was touching the bat via visuals, Paddikal was not given out. It was very evident from the visuals that there was an interaction of the ball with the bat.

2. RCB vs MI 2019: Devilliers given out on a no-ball from Malinga

In the warm contest between RCB and MI when RCB needed quick runs to win over Mumbai, Devilliers was batting on 70. RCB was chasing a total of 188 runs which Mr 360 had brought on the verge before he was missed out by Maling. However, the visuals show that Maling bowled no ball.

3. CSK vs RR 2019: No ball decision reversed

The third strange incident from the on-ground umpire was seen in a high-octane match between Chennai Super King and Rajasthan Royals in 2019. Jadeja was batting when Chennai needed 8 runs in 3 balls. Umpire first signalled a no-ball by Ben Stokes but strangely the decision was reversed, cancelling a run and a free-hit delivery. This incident generated huge perplexion as clearly no ball can be seen. Jadeja got furious after the decision of no ball was unjustifiably reversed. This incident got even captain cool, MS Dhoni acrimonious.
