Tokyo Olympics 2021: Kerber pulls out of tennis event at the Games

It seems that the problems related to the Olympics is not getting settled down as many big names have already withdrawn their name in the upcoming Olympics.

After Nadal, Federer, Serena will not be taking part in the upcoming marquee event the latest to join the bandwagon is Angelique Kerber  who will not be taking part in Olympics 2021.

“Representing Germany in London 2012 and Rio 2016 as part of the German team has always been one of my favourite memories of my career so far,” Kerber said in a statement.

“This makes it even more disappointing for me to accept the fact that my body needs rest after the intense few weeks that lie behind me and that I have to recover first before returning to competition later this summer.

“Thank you for your support, as this has been a very difficult decision for me. Good luck to all my fellow German athletes in Tokyo, I will miss you,” the statement added.

Kerber is a three time Grand Slam winner champion won silver medal in the last Summer Olympics held at Rio 2016.

Olympics 2020 has already faced huge scrutiny from local fans as they want the sporting event to be cancelled due to a huge surge in COVID-19 cases.
