Waugh notably led the Australian team in the 2001 and 2002/03 Ashes series, both of which Australia won with a scoreline of 4-1. Waugh’s contributions were significant, scoring 626 runs in nine matches at an average of 48.10, including three centuries.
3. Colin Cowdrey
Colin Cowdrey, one of England’s finest batsmen, also left an indelible mark in Ashes history. Cowdrey participated in 43 Ashes contests during his remarkable Test career. A stylish right-handed batsman, he scored 2,433 runs in the Ashes at an average of 34.25, including five centuries.
Cowdrey’s cricketing journey spanned from 1954 to 1975, during which he established himself as one of the best batsmen of his generation. In his overall Test career, Cowdrey averaged 44.06 with 7,624 runs in 114 matches.
