A three match one day series is underway between UAE and West Indies at Sharjah. West Indies secured an easy win in the first ODI against UAE to lead the series by 1-0. This series will play a key role for both teams to determine their qualification in the upcoming ODI world cup.
Both teams will use the series to hone their squads prior to the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which is slated to take place in Zimbabwe between June 18 and July 9. In the ongoing series between the two nations, West Indies holds the upper hand as they are one of the oldest teams with a long experience of playing the world cup tournament.
The UAE and West Indies are divided into separate groups; the UAE is in group A with the Netherlands’ opponents Ireland, Nepal, Scotland, and the USA. The West Indies is in group B with the hosts Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Oman, and the Netherlands.
Mubashshir Usmani, the general Secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), believes this an excellent chance for the squad to prepare for the Qualifiers that might further lead them to playing the 50-over World Cup in India.
The qualifiers for the World Cup 2023 will take place in Zimbabwe from June 18 and will last till July 9. The matches will determine the qualification for the above mentioned teams. West Indies is among the strongest teams that will participate in the qualifiers match.
The Sharjah series is equally important for the UAE team to ensure their qualification in the world cup 2023. The UAE is currently struggling with its new squad.
