Third Generation Player Makes AC Milan Debut

Daniel Maldini

Daniel Maldini, the son of AC Milan Legend Paola Maldini, made his debut for AC Milan in a narrow 1-0 loss against Bayern Munich. Daniel became the youngest player to start a match in International Champions Cup

AC Milan played against Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday at Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City. Daniel Maldini started for the Rossoneri, but failed to convert his limited chances in a closely contested match. The deadlock was broken by Leon Goretzka in the added minutes of half time. At the blow of full time whistle, the goal by Goretzka proved to be the winner for the Barbarians.

AC Milan is synonymous with ‘Maldini’ and the 17-year-old followed in the footsteps of his father, legendary defender Paolo Maldini, and grandfather, former AC Milan and Italy manager, Cesare.

Often regarded as one of the best, if not the best defenders of all time, Paolo Maldini is now the director at the club. His dad, Cesare Maldini signed for the club in 1954. Since then, Maldini tradition has continued at the club. Paolo has made 647 appearances for the Rossoneri.

With Paolo’s retirement, his legendary Jersey no.3 was retired at the club, though, the legendary defender has allowed the usage of the jersey number should either of his sons play for Milan.
