The search for the new head coach of Team India continues. The names of many contenders came forward but till now no name has been confirmed that this veteran will be the next coach. There are many former players who have refused to coach Team India. If we talk about it, foreign coaches like Ricky Ponting, Andy Flower and Justin Langer have refused to coach the Indian team.
Possibility of a foreign coach
Rahul Dravid’s tenure is only till the T20 World Cup and that is why the BCCI has invited applications for the new coach. This time there is every possibility that a foreigner can become the next head coach of Team India. It was claimed in many media reports that Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming and Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting are on the BCCI radar in the IPL. Apart from this, names of Justin Langer and Mahela Jayawardene have also appeared.

These legends refused to be the coach
While three of these legends Ricky Ponting, Andy Flower and Justin Langer have refused to coach Team India. Ricky Ponting has refused this citing family and has also given the reason that after becoming the coach of the Indian team, he will not be able to become a coach in IPL. Whereas Justin Langer refused to do so citing pressure and politics in Indian cricket. Langer said that KL Rahul suggested to refuse to coach India. Whereas Andy Flower has also denied this as well.

Gautam Gambhir is frontrunner
Gautam Gambhir is said to be the frontrunner in the race, however till now there has been no response from Mahela Jayawardene and Stephen Fleming as to what decision they take regarding this. Gautam Gambhir’s name was also being discussed in the race for the head coach of the Indian team and it was being said that he is the frontrunner in this race. However, he too has not given any statement yet. The last date to apply for the post of coach of Team India is 27th May but there is a state of suspense regarding who will be the next boss.
