Ashes

The Ashes 2023, 5th Test: Stuart Broad’s last Test match

The 5th Test match of the Ashes is going through all the ups and downs, and it is really not clear who might end up winning. At the end of Day 3, it really looked like the English team was having an upper hand over the Australian team. However, the opening partnership of the Australian team changed the course of the match. Currently, Australia looks in a much better position. However, nothing can be said till the end of the match, because the experienced bowling attack of England can get some quick wickets, to change the course of the game.

Important turning points of the match till now

There have been several turning points in this match so far. Till the end of Day 3 England was in a better position, but now at the end of Day 4 Australia seems to be sailing towards victory.

1st innings

In the first innings, it looked like it was going to be a low-scoring game. England batted first and got the score of 283-10. In the reply, Australia was not able to put up a big score, as they were all out only for 295-10. Even though Steve Smith played a wonderful knock of 71 runs.

2nd innings

In the 2nd innings, England was able to put up a fine total on the board of 395-10. Joe Root followed the Bazball strategy, and it worked for him really well. He scored 91 runs, on only 106 balls. Now Australia was set to chase the target of 384 runs.

Chasing the target of 384 runs is certainly not easy for any team. Looks like Australia has done that really well. The Australian team’s openers have given a brilliant start of 135 runs. Currently both the openers are still not out, and in the middle order, Steve Smith is also there to score big. On paper, it looks easy for Australia to win, but in Test Cricket the situation can change quickly.
