Continental Football Championships : The six continents like Asia, Africa, South America, North America, Oceania, and Europe are the continental championships for the national team conducting 2 to 4 years. These six continental confederations are the members of the international association football governing body FIFA (federation international de football association).
Asian Football Confederation
In Asia and Australia, the governing body of the association football is the Asian football confederation. It is shortly called as AFC. This AFC has the 47 member countries around the Asian and Australian continents. This AFC was founded on 8 May 1954. The AFC has another section called Asian Ladies football confederation (ALFC) which manages the women’s football in Asia. In April 1968, conducting a meeting includes Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore and independently formed the ALFC group. The headquarters of AFC is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa from Bahrain is the current president of the AFC.
The AFC Asian Cup and AFC Women’s Asian cup is conducted by the AFC to determine the Champions of Asia. Also, AFC conducts the AFC Solidarity cup. These three events are conducted every four years. AFC conducts some international tournaments like various age-level international youth football tournaments, AFC Futsal Championship, AFC beach soccer championship, Asian qualification rounds for FIFA World cup, FIFA Women’s world cup and football for the summer Olympics.
Confederation of African Football
The administrative and controlling body of the African association football is the Confederation of African football or CAF. It represents the national football of Africa. The main role of CAF is to control the prize money, regulations and media rights to national, continental and club competitions. This is the biggest when compared to the other six continental confederations of FIFA. The CAF was formed on 8 February 1957. The headquarters of CAF is located in Egypt. This CAF currently has the 56 members. On March 16, 2017, the Ahmad from Madagascar was elected as the president of CAF and still continuous.
CAF conducted the international games like Africa Cup of Nation from 1957 and African Nations Championship started from 2009. The club competitions like CAF Champions League which is also known as African Cup of Champions Clubs, held in 1964 and the CAF Confederation Cup which is started in 2004.
CONCACAF
CONCACAF – Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean association football is the governing body for football association in North America includes Central America and Caribbean regions. CONCACAF was formed on 18 September 1961 in Mexico. This is the third successful confederation in FIFA. The members of CONCACAF only wins the three major worldwide competitions – world cup, Olympic and the Algarve Cup in women’s football. Miami, United States is the headquarters of CONCACAF. This CONCACAF runs the CONCACAF Gold Cup, CONCACAF nation’s league, CONCACAF Champions League, CONCACAF League. This CONCACAF got many titles in the international games.
CONMEBOL
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) is South Africa’s continental governing body of football. CONMEBOL is the sixth confederation of FIFA. The national team of the CONMEBOL won the nine FIFA world cups. The CONMEBOL club got the 22 international cups and 4 FIFA club world cups. The CONMEBOL world cup qualifiers are described as the toughest qualifiers in the world. In 1916, the Copa America is started and this is the main competition for the men’s national team. CONMEBOL also conducts under-20, under-17, and under-15 level national competitions. It also runs the two club competitions like Copa Libertadores which was held in 1960 and the Copa Sudamericana which was held in 2002.
Oceania Football Confederation
OFC is the governing body of the governing body of football in Oceania. This is mainly made for island nations where the football is not so famous. This is the only confederation among the six confederations that does not get any single international title. OFC was formed in 1972. This is made up of 11 members. OFC sent the representatives four times to the FIFA world cup.
UEFA
The Union of European Football Association (UEFA) is the authority for association football in Europe. UEFA has the 55 national association members. UEFA conducts the UEFA European Championships, UEFA National League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA super Cub. The president of the UEFA is Aleksander ceferin. This UEFA was formed on 15 June 1954 in Basel, Switzerland. The UEFA European football championship is the main competition for men’s national team which was started in 1958. This game is also known as European Nations Cup up-to-the year 1964. It has some other name as EURO or UEFA.
The UEFA Champions league is the top-ranked UEFA competition. This was first started in 1992. In this competition, select the 1-4 teams of each country leagues. The UEFA Europa League is the secondly ranked competition of UEFA. The UEFA also conducts the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the club teams. In 973, the UEFA super cub was started.
