Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan has created history by scoring a double century against the Rest of India in the Irani Cup. Sarfaraz, playing for the current Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai, scored a double-century on the second day of the match. With this, Sarfaraz has become the first batsman to score a double century for Mumbai in the history of the Irani Cup.

Sarfaraz Khan was part of the Indian team for the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh but he could not get a place in the playing eleven.

For Mumbai, Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer made a partnership of 102 runs for the fourth wicket. After this, Sarfaraz Khan along with Rahane handled the innings. However Rahane missed scoring a century. He scored 97 runs. Rahane and Mulani returned to the pavilion within a few overs.

After this Sarfaraz got the support of Tanush Kotian. Together they took Mumbai from 280/6 to 460. Sarfaraz completed his double century in the final session despite struggling with cramps. He took 253 balls for this. Sarfaraz hit 23 fours and two sixes in his innings.

Before this match, the previous highest individual score by a Mumbai batsman was 195 runs, made by RD Parker in 1972. Sarfaraz is the 11th batsman to score a double century in the Irani Cup. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the last batsman to do so in 2023.

Sarfaraz Khan became the fourth youngest player to score a double century in the Irani Cup. Sarfaraz completed his double century in 253 balls on the second day of the match at the age of 26 years and 346 days. Yashasvi Jaiswal is the youngest player to achieve this feat at the age of 21 years and 63 days.
