Sandeep Chaudhary, Sumit Antil Book Quota For Tokyo 2020 Paralympics

Indian para athletes Sandeep Chaudhary and Sumit Antil brought joy to the country as they booked quota for Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

The duo finished in top two in the men’s Javelin F64 finals at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships being held in Dubai.

The top ranked para-javelin throwers Sandeep and Sumit clinched the gold and silver respectively creating world records on their way to glory in the F64 javelin event.

Sandeep, an Asian Para Games champion, took the gold as he threw the javelin to a distance of 66.18 metres, thus breaking his own record of 65.80 metres in F44 category.

Sumit followed Sandeep on the podium with a distance of 62.88 metres as he bettered his own F64 world record of 60.45 metres.

Sandeep after his victory said that he was determined to better his own record as he had promised himself before coming to Dubai.

“I’m very satisfied with my performance as it was also my personal best. I came here with a promise to improve my distance. It was also a new world record in my category so I am really happy about it.” The 23-year old was quoted saying.

Sandeep further also went on to praise Sumit as he appreciated his junior’s performance saying that the young lad is doing a good job and the world record will encourage him to do even better.

On their preparation plans for Tokyo 2020, Sandeep said: “We will try to continue the rhythm. This season I have participated in four events and I finished with gold and while Sumit also has some good results. The medal here is certainly a big motivation to continue the process and keep doing the things we are doing now. Winning a medal at Tokyo 2020 is the target.”

The Paralympics will take place in Tokyo just after the completion of the Olympics. The Olympics will finish on the 9th of August, 2020 and the Paralympics will start on 25th.
