Rami Sebei, popularly known by his ring name Sami Zayn, is a Canadian professional wrestler, currently working with World Wrestling Entertainment on the Smackdown the brand. Sebei started his wrestling career with Independent wrestling platforms with a ring name El Generico. Before being signed to World Wrestling Entertainment, Generico used to put a mask from the beginning in 2002 till 2013.

Generico has performed on several wrestling units in his career that includes International Wrestling Syndicate (2002-2009), Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) (2004-2013), Chikara ( 2005-2012), Ring of Honor (2005-2012) and several other promotions. Sebei signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2013 and made his debut for WWE’s developmental territory NXT, where he made his debut in a tag team match while working unmasked and under his real name. He changed his ring name from Generico to Sami Zayn.

Zayn has held several titles around his waist in his career in which he is a two-time PWG World Champion and five-time World Tag Team Champion. He has also won ROH World Television Championship and the ROH World Tag Team Championship with Kevin Steen. Zayn is also a two-time IWS World Heavyweight Champion for the Montreal-based International Wrestling Syndicate (IWS). He also won the wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship in Germany and DDT Pro-Wrestling’s KO-D Openweight Championship in Japan. In WWE, he is a one-time NXT Champion.

Sami Zayn Early Life:

Sebei was born on July 12, 1984, in Laval, Quebec, Canada. He was born in a Muslim Syrian family, who were immigrated to Canada from Syria in the 1970s. Sebei always wanted to be wrestler hence he took his wrestling training from Jerry Tuite and Savio Vega.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Sebei began his professional wrestling career in 2002 when he joined Montreal-based professional wrestling promotion, ‘International Wrestling Syndicate (IWS),’ under the ring name El Generico, and won his first IWS World Heavyweight Championship. He bagged his second reign as champion by defeating Kevin Steen.

Having being a part of International Wrestling Syndicate, he was also a part of other wrestling promotions that includes Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Ring of Honor, Chikara, Dragon Gate and many more. He earned limelight with several championship victories in which he became two-time PWG World Champion and five-time World Tag Team Champion. He has also won ROH World Television Championship and the ROH World Tag Team Championship with Kevin Steen. He also won the wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship in Germany and DDT Pro-Wrestling’s KO-D Openweight Championship in Japan.

Sebei signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2013, and was assigned to its developmental territory NXT under the new ring name Sami Zayn. In 2014, Zayn defeated Neville to win the NXT Championship. He lost his title to Owens, thus ending his reign at 62 days. Zayn made his WWE main roster debut by being revealed as a challenger for Cena’s weekly “U.S. Open Challenge” for his United States Championship; however he lost the match. Zayn feuded with Owens and even teamed up with him to deliver several storylines in the WWE.

Zayn made his video game debut in WWE 2K15, and later appeared as a playable character WWE 2K16, WWE 2K17, WWE 2K18, WWE 2K19, and WWE 2K20.
