Rushmi Chakravarthi was born on 09 October 1977 in Hyderabad, India. The tennis player originally hails from Chennai, India. She has completed her schooling from Good Shepherd in Chennai and graduation in commerce from Ethiraj College.
Rushmi has always loved tennis, and right from the beginning, she toiled to maintain the level of her performance in order to acquire a career break. Like most of the athletes, Rushmi too had no resources to help her to compete at a higher level. But she didn’t stop and dealt with every hardship sportingly. She continued to play as she was fit enough & even defeated many tennis players in India. Her love for the sport kept her going.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
Rushmi Chakravarthi became a professional tennis player after competing in the first round of WTA Tour Sunfeast Open Tournament in 2005 that was held in Kolkata. The biggest career highlight of Rushmi was when she earned four medals out of which two golds were from the Afro-Asian Games 2003. Rushmi has also represented her homeland at the Asian Games of 2002, 2006 & 2010.
In 2010, the tennis player has also participated in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi where she clinched a bronze medal with her partner, Sania Mirza. Rushmi’s tennis career continued with a winning spree. Later, Rushmi partnered with a tennis player, Poojashree Venkatesha. They attained victory at the ITF competition in Muzaffarnagar.
In 2012, Chakravarthi and Sania Mirza were awarded a wild card entry in the London Olympics in Women’s Doubles. Despite showcasing an outstanding performance, the duo failed to bag a medal at the Games.
Once she retired from tennis, Rushmi Chakravarthi started her own Tennis academy namely Precision Tennis Academy. She always dreamed to build a tennis academy train & produce some extraordinary tennis players from India.
Rushmi Chakravarthi is still passionate about tennis and continuing to make India proud of her work.
