Circle Style Kabaddi Rules
The game of Circle Style Kabaddi is governed by IKF and shall be played under the rules and regulations set by IKF.
Field of Play Measurements
For men and junior boys, the field of play shall have a radius of 22 meters, and it shall be divided into two equal halves by a midline.
In the case of women, junior girls, sub-junior boys, and girls, the field of play shall have a radius of 16 meters, and it must be divided into two equal halves by a midline.
Boundary
The circle demarcating the radius of 16 meters in case of women, junior girls, sub-junior boys & girls and the radius of 22 meters in the case of men and junior boys will be the boundary of the play-field. The boundary will be the part of the play-field, and it shall be marked minimum 3cm to maximum 5 cm thickness.
The width of all lines shall be a minimum 3 cm to maximum 5 cm. To have a clear space of a minimum of 3 meters outside the boundary is necessary.
Pala
The pala is demarcated by marking lines of 3 meters from the center point of the midline on each side. It is also considered to be the gate of the court in the center of the play-field. The Raider should safely reach his home court through the pala only. The total length of the pala shall be 6 meters, and the pala posts shall be mounds of either lime powder or of some soft material of 20 cm height and 15 cm diameter. The size of pala is the same for all age groups.
Age and Weight Criteria
- Men and Women: There are no restrictions on age and weight limits in the men and women category.
- Junior Boys: The age shall be 20 years or below on the last day of the event, and the weight should be lower than 75 Kgs.
- Junior Girls: The age shall be 20 years or below on the last day of the event, and the weight should be lower than 70 Kgs.
- Sub-Junior Boys: The age shall be 16 years or below on the last day of the event, and the weight should be lower than 65 Kgs.
- Sub-Junior Girls: The age shall be 16 years or below on the last day of the event, and the weight should be lower than 65 Kgs.
Rules of Play
- Winner of the toss shall have the choice of the court or the raid. The court shall be changed in the second half, and the team which had not opted for raid shall send their Raider first.
- The Raider of both the teams shall stand in the standing area and wait for their turn of the raid. If during the raid, any raider comes out of this area then the raid will be over, and one technical point shall be awarded to the opponent team.
- It is compulsory for all 4 stoppers/defenders to form the chain. They should not break the chain; otherwise, a point will be awarded to the raiding team.
- The 4 stoppers must be positioned in front of the pala towards the end line before starting the raid, and the chain can move either side during the raid.
- A raider can touch only one defender during the raid in the game of Circe Style Kabaddi. A point shall be rewarded to the defending team if a raider touches more than one defender.
- No raider is allowed to take two consecutive raids, and there must be a gap of minimum one raid between two raids of the same Raider.
- In the game of Circe Style Kabaddi, only one defender is allowed to tackle the Raider. The Raider will be declared safe if more than one defender tries to stop or tackle the Raider, and a point will be awarded to the raiding side.
- If any player crosses the boundary or midline first during the struggle, then a point will be awarded against him.
- A point shall be awarded to the defending team if a raider intensely pushes out the stopper.
- If both players – the Raider and the stopper cross the boundary or midline simultaneously during the raid, except through the pala, then no point will be awarded to any team. In such a situation the Raider will be declared safe and awarded a pint if he crosses the midline through the pala.
- The Raider will be declared safe if a defender, who has gone out of bounds, holds the Raider. In such a case, a point will be declared in favor of the Raider.
- If a raider goes out of turn, then the Referee or umpire is obliged to order him to go back, and one technical point will be awarded to the opponent team.
- Not more than one raider is allowed to enter the opponent’s court at a time. If at a tie, more than one raider enters the opponent’s court, then the Referee or umpire will order all of them to go back to their court. One technical point and the chance to raid will be awarded to the opponent team.
- A team should send their Raider within 10 seconds after the opponent team completes their raid. Thus each side will send their Raider alternatively until the end of the game. If the Raider fails to start his raid within 10 seconds of the opponent’s raid, then the raiding team loses its chance to raid. In such a case, the opponent team shall be awarded a technical point.
- None of the defenders are allowed to touch the Raider’s court during the course of the raid. One point shall be given to the raiding team if any defender or defenders touch the Raider’s court before the completion of the raid. Any such raid will be counted as successful.
- When a raider is held, the defender shall not try to stifle his cant deliberately by shutting his mouth, using violent tackling technique leading to injuries or use of any unfair means. The umpire or Referee shall declare the raider safe if such an incident takes place.
Rules of Matches
- Each team shall consist of 14 players, and 8 players shall take the ground at a time. Remaining 6 players will be the substitute players.
- In case of men and junior boys, the duration of the match shall be 40 minutes with two halves of 20 minutes each and a 5 minutes break between the two halves. In the case of women, junior girls, sub-junior boys & sub-junior girls, there shall be two halves of 15 minutes each with 5 minutes break between the two halves.
- The teams shall change their court at the half time, and the number of total raids must be equal for both the teams in each half. The last raid of each half shall be allowed to complete even if the scheduled time is over.
- In the game of Circle Style Kabaddi, the out and revival rule shall not be applicable and only points scored will be counted.
- Every raid in the game of Circle Style Kabaddi should be productive either by touching the defender/technical point/self out or Raider being tackled. If a defender or defenders becomes self out, then the raid will be considered successful, and the raiding side will be awarded a point. The raid should not exceed than 30 seconds; otherwise, the opponent team will be awarded a point.
Time Out
- The Captain or coach of the team can call for the time out with the permission of the Referee. In each half, each team is allowed to take two time-outs of 30 seconds each. The time of time out shall be added to the match time.
- No team is allowed to leave the ground during the time out. If any team violates the rule, then a technical point shall be awarded to the opponent team.
- The referee/umpire is allowed to call the official time out in case of any injury to a player, re-lining of the ground, interruption by outsiders or any such unforeseen circumstances. The time of such time out will be added to the match time.
Water Break
- In each quarter (after 10 minutes of play), one water break of 2 minutes shall be given.
- No team is allowed to leave the ground during the water break. If any team violates the rule, then a technical point will be awarded to the opponent team.
Substitute
- With the permission of the Referee, 6 reserve players can be substituted.
- Substituted players are allowed to be re-substituted.
- No substitution is allowed for any suspended or disqualified a player from the match. In such a case, the team has to play with a lesser number of players.
Result
Just like any other format of Kabaddi, in the game of Circle Style Kabaddi too, the team which out-scores the opposition at the full time declared the Winner.
Tie in the Knock-Out
If there is a tie in a knock-out game, then a tie-breaker should be played between both teams according to the following rules:
- Both the teams shall field 8 players in the court.
- Both teams will get the chance to raid 5 times alternatively.
- The side which raided first at the beginning of the match shall be given a chance to raid first in the tie-breaker.
- If there is a tie even after the 5-5 raids, then the game must be decided through the ‘Golden Raid’ rule.
Note: All other rules of the Circle Style Kabaddi including the ‘Golden Raid’ rule and League System are the same as the Regular Kabaddi.
