Ricky Ponting reveals he has kept his World Cup 2003 finals bat as a souvenir

Reminiscing the Australian team’s win in the final match of the World cup 2003 against India on this day, cricketer Ricky Ponting revealed he has kept the bat he used in the match as a keepsake of their victory in his collection.

As the world is facing a troubling scenarios and lockdowns in several parts of the world while combatting the COVID-19 pandemic, the star player chose to share some of his treasured items from his and mementos from his collection of the things he has kept from his career during the period of his self-isolation. 

“Given we’ve all got a bit of time on our hands as we stay home, thought I’d go through what I’ve kept from my career and share some of it with everyone on a regular basis- this is the bat I used in the 2003 World Cup final.”, the former Australian captain wrote sharing an image of the bat on his twitter account.

Soon after a chain of comments started pouring in from cricket fans all over, especially by Indian fans, recalling the very match and joking how they believed he had a spring attached to his bat admiring his terrific performance that day.

With his unbeatable partnership with Damien Martyn, Ricky Ponting smashed an outstanding 140 runs off of 121 balls in the tournament finals 17 years ago, contributing in the 359/2 scorecard to be chased by the Indian team set by the Aussies in the ODI match. 

Team India couldn’t score beyond 234 and lost the match by 125 runs.

Australia lifted the trophy that year on this day under the captaincy of the 45-year old trouper making it their third World Cup win and they’re first with Ponting as their skipper. The player has played the role of the skipper of the team in all the cricket formats and lets his team to multiple victories in his tenure.
