Early Life and Career
Berrington was born in South Africa’s Pretoria, but as a young child, he moved to Scotland. Berrington represented Scotland at every age division from under-13s to under-19s while playing cricket at the collegiate level. International Career
Berrington, a talented cricketer, made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Scotland against Ireland in July 2008 and played in his first Twenty 20 International (T20I) against Ireland the following month. Richard Douglas Berrington became a regular member of the Scottish team, excelling in Twenty20s and first-class cricket, and was part of their squad to play in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. Berrington became the sixth Scottish cricketer to be given a full-time contract with Cricket Scotland in March 2010, aiming to increase professionalism in their national team.
Richard Douglas Berrington has scored centuries in several key matches for the national cricket team of Scotland, but he was inconsistent. Berrington’s maiden century in One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Ireland in September 2014 secured his place in Scotland’s team for the 2015 Cricket World Cup, albeit in a losing cause. In the opening match of the 2015 World Cup against New Zealand, Berrington scored 50 runs as part of a large partnership with Matt Machan, making it his highest score of the World Cup.
Richard Douglas Berrington also captained his first international matches for the national cricket team of Scotland in the month of January of the year 2018 during the 2017–18 United Arab Emirates (UAE) Tri-Nation Series. Richard Douglas Berrington was chosen to represent the Edmonton Royals franchise side in the 2019 Global T20 Canada competition in June 2019.
