Rashid Khan set to return in Afghanistan colors for 3-match ODI series againts Pakistan

Afghanistan All-rounder Rashid Khan is all set to return in time for a 3-match ODI series against Pakistan. The first ODI is slated for 22 August at the neutral venue of Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium which will also host matches of Asia Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, Rashid Khan recently won the inaugural season of Major League Cricket on 31st July with MI New York. He was a crucial part of MI New York and he was also in line to play the Hundred tournament in England.

However, he reportedly sustained a back injury and backed off from featuring in the Hundred. Rashid Khan will do so in order to be present for Afghanistan in upcoming Asia Cup 2023 (August) and the ICC Cricket World Cup the following month.

Rashid was also left out of Afghanistan’s one-off Test against Bangladesh but was included for the T20I and ODI series. He will join rest of his teammates during their 2nd preparation camp at Hambantota from 10 August onwards.

Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Chief selector Asadullah Khan while speaking to Sportzcraazy, revealed that Rashid Khan has desires of being fully fit for Pakistan series, which is also a run through for Asia Cup 2023 at Pakistan and Sri-Lanka.

“He (Rashid) skipped the Hundred for these games (against Pakistan) as he wanted some rest to be fully fit for the Pakistan game. Consistently he is playing cricket so he took a rest from Hundred for the Pakistan series.” – Asadullah said.

“We have lots of hopes from the fast bowling attack along with the spinners. And as a batting unit, we are hopeful that those players who are out of form will regain form in the Asia Cup and in the Pakistan series as well.” – Asadullah concluded.
