Rashid Khan, most 4-wicket hauls in T20

Rashid Khan becomes the player with most 4-wicket hauls in T20

Afghanistan’s star spinner and skipper, Rashid Khan, has added another achievement to his already impressive career. During their thrilling 8-run victory over Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match, Rashid achieved a remarkable feat – becoming the bowler with the most 4-wicket hauls in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

This record-breaking performance took place at the Arnos Vale Ground, where Rashid’s skillful bowling proved a helping hand in Afghanistan’s win. At just 25 years old, he has now bagged a staggering nine 4-wicket hauls in T20Is. Previously, the record belonged to Bangladesh’s experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who sits at close second place with eight 4-wicket hauls. Uganda’s Henry Ssenyondo completes the top three with seven 4-wicket hauls in T20 cricket history.

During the match against Bangladesh, Rashid displayed his exceptional bowling talent. He scalped 4 crucial wickets, giving away only 23 runs in his four overs. He had an impressive economy rate of 5.80, meaning he conceded very few runs per over. Specifically, he dismissed key Bangladeshi batsmen Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, and Rishad Hossain, effectively dismantling their batting line-up.

It’s worth noting that Rashid wasn’t the only bowler to shine for Afghanistan. Naveen-ul-Haq also had a stellar performance, taking four wickets himself. Combined with crucial wickets from Fazalhaq Farooqi and Gulbadin Naib, the Afghan bowling attack effectively restricted Bangladesh, paving the way for their victory.

This win wasn’t just a celebration for Afghanistan; it also meant the end of the road for Australia in the tournament. Led by Mitchell Marsh, the Australian team finished third in their Super Eights Group 1 table, managing only 2 points. Their journey in the T20 World Cup 2024 has come to a disappointing end.

Rashid Khan’s record-breaking achievement and Afghanistan’s thrilling victory have undoubtedly boosted the team’s morale. This victory has also given them a lot of confidence to perform better in the semifinal against South Africa.Ā

Afghanistan’s focus now shifts to the upcoming stages of the tournament, where they aim to continue their winning streak and potentially even claim the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy.Ā
