Rahul Balasaheb Aware Biography: Rahul Balasaheb Aware is a well-known freestyle wrestler from India. He specializes in the Men’s freestyle 57 kg event. From watching his father toiling in farm to make every end meet to earning his first gold medal for his homeland at the Commonwealth Games, the young wrestler had juggled between many hardships to reach the position he is today. From the day he started competing, Rahul Aware did not sit quietly until he fulfilled his father’s dreams.



Wrestler Rahul Aware’s journey started with his hot-headed nature. As a kid, Rahul used to fight a lot in his school. Every day his villagers used to arrive at his home with his complaints. His father, who was a struggling wrestler back then, decided to make his short-tempered child a wrestler. Under his father, he learned wrestling techniques and evolved into an exceptional wrestler. Somewhere, his aggression favours the wrestler on the wrestling field.


Rahul Aware was born on 02 November 1991 in Patoda Beed district in Maharashtra. His wrestling journey started in 2005. Rahul’s father, Balasaheb Aware handheld & made Rahul walk into the world of wrestling. Due to lack of guidance, Balasaheb was unable to become a wrestler but he wanted his sons to become professional wrestlers someday. To pursue his father’s dream, he started his training under gold medallist, Harishchandra Birajdar in 2005. During his training in Patoda, Rahul used to compete in local competitions at fairs. He achieved many cash prizes through those competitions which helped him to take care of his nutrition & diet. After Birajdar’s demise in 2011, Rahul was coached by Arjun Awardee Kaka Pawar in Pune.

Once the wrestler got the job in Indian Railways, Rahul was able to focus on the sport without thing about the finances.

A “fighter-cock” kid gradually grown into an excellent Wrestler, who made India proud by earning a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships.


Wrestler Rahul Aware was trained under two outstanding wrestlers, who worked on him, motivated him and helped him to get over his tough times. The wrestler hailing from Maharashtra showed promising performances by winning golds at the Youth Commonwealth Games & the Junior Asian. Further, he also earned a silver-gold in the World Juniors. He had high expectations for Commonwealth Games but he was unable to perform well in the selection trial & hence missed the chance.  Without losing hope, Rahul trained hard for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Unfortunately, the Wrestling Federation of India didn’t organize a trial & sent a team considering their previous conduct. Following his dismissal from the Olympic spot for Rio Olympics 2016, Rahul returned to Mumbai disheartened. But his blazing desire & hunger for triumph are his strengths which will surely help him to win a medal in Olympics 2020.

Rahul Aware hit headlines when he was dismissed by WFI for Asian Games for being overweight. Arguing their reason, Rahul told that he didn’t go for the trails as a protest against Wrestling Federation of India’s biased conduct towards star wrestlers & he also stated that the WFI was lying as he was not weighed by the officials.

Earlier also Rahul has experienced a similar incident in 2016. His name was rejected for the Rio Olympics 2016.

Apart from this, the 27-year-old wrestler has also made headlines for his incredible performances & achievements.
