P.V. Sindhu or Pusarla Venkatesh Sindhu is India’s ace shuttler, who rose to fame after winning the silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016, establishing the amazing feat that made her the youngest female badminton player to win a silver medal at Olympics, taking on from Saina Nehwal’s heroics. When her contemporaries remained in news for controversies and rumoured affairs, she silently nailed it making her achievements shout. Since 2016, her major achievements include silver medal at the Olympics 2016, silver medal in women’s Singles at Common Wealth games 2018 and winning the silver medal at the BWF World Championships in 2017 and 2018.

PV Sindhu Biography: Early Life
The high pedigree badminton player was born with sports genetics in her DNA, hailing from Volleyball player’s family. Her father Ramana and mother Vijaya, both represented India at the international level.

At the age of 8, PV Sindhu was introduced to Badminton by Mir Mehboob Ali, who also trained star shuttlers like Saina Nehwal, Shruti Kurien and Jwala Gutta. She took the basic training from Ali, who played a pivotal role in framing her illustrious career, but later joined Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy and started training under her mentor and All England Open Badminton Champion Pullela Gopichand.

The unparallel passion towards the game motivated her to travel 56 kilometres every day for her training at the iconic Gopinath Badminton Academy that has produced stars like Saina Nehwal, Srikanth Kidambi, Parupalli Kashyap and Prannoy Kumar.

However, her parents decided to move in the vicinity of the Academy, situated in Gachibowli so as to provide her more ease and leave her with more energy to focus on the game in a much better way.

Sindhu hails from a Volleyball family, with her parents P.V. Ramana and P. Vijaya, both playing the sport. She also has an elder sister named Divya, who also played Volleyball at the national level, but later pursued Medical. She is married to US-based software engineer Anurag Kumar.

According to the grapevine, she has dated Manu Atri in the past, which also caused a stir in the family and the pair maintained distance ever since.

She has been employed by Bharat Petroleum as Deputy Sports manager following her Olympic silver medal feat. The Andhra Pradesh government also applauded Sindhu laurels and appointed her as Deputy Collector (Group-I).

PV Sindhu Professional Life

PV Sindhu professional life is filled with struggles, pain, resistance and finally awards and recognitions. She tasted her first success after winning the bronze medal at the 2009 Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships held in Colombo.

After promising debut the next 3-year phase was a mixed bag of success and failures. Despite reaching the quarter-finals and semi-finals in global events like the Olympic 2012 & 2010 Uber Cup, she couldn’t win a single tournament.

In 2013, she won her first Gold grand Prix title defeating Gu Juan from Singapore in the Malaysian Open, she also became the first Indian women’s singles player to win two back to back medals at the World Championship in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

In 2013, she led Awadhe Warriors in the Indian Badminton League and reached the finals, but lost to Hyderabad Hotshots.

In 2016, she was given the responsibility to captain Chennai Smashers. Her charismatic performance and mentorship helped the team reach semifinals.

Rio Olympics 2016
At the age of 22 pv sindhu, 2016 was a memorable year for P.V. Sindhu, she became the first Indian shuttler to win a silver medal in the Olympics. She was defeated by Spaniard Carolina Marin in just 83 minutes.

She lost the finals 19-21-21-12-21-15 to Carolina Marin but became an overnight epitome of grit, determination and success.

BWF World Championship 2014
The World championship in 2014 was a major milestone in PV Sindhu career, she looked determined to win the gold, but was defeated by Carolina Marin in straight sets and ended up winning the bronze medal.

BWF World Championship 2017
In the year 2017, she reached the finals of the BWF World Championship, but lost to Nozomi Okuhara of Japan by  19-21, 22-20, 20-22 and ended up winning the silver medal.
