PSV Eindhoven also known as Lightbulbs is a top tier Dutch Football Club. They participate in the KNVB Cup. Johan Cruyff Shield and the Eredivise.
HISTORY
The club was founded 106 years ago on 31st August 1913 by a group of Philips executives to create a sense of mutual friendship and bonding among their employees. With due time the company doomed but the club continued majorly due to the company’s successor Philips Elftal.
In 1928 the club open gates for the public to come and play for the club which hasn’t been allowed before. The club before the introduction of football in the Netherlands professionally already had claimed three league titles.
Thus the club became the first Netherland club to participate in European Cup but initially was beaten badly. In 1972 the club appointed Kees Rijvers as their coach who finally made appropriate use of the players.
Under his leadership, the club won three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups and a UEFA Cup. Under Ruud Gullit and Ronald Koeman, PSV continued as a dominating club throughout the 80s.
The club claimed two Eredivisie titles in 1985 and 1987. The club won Treble in 1988 by defeating Benfica in the European Cup final.
In 2010 the club made headlines over Feyenoord by 10-0. Since then the club had won their ninth KNVB Cup in 2012 and another Eredivise title in 2017.
Club Ownership
The ownership of the club is in the hands of American businessman Frank McCourt. On 17th October in 2016, he completed the deal of purchasing the club for a price tag of 45 million euros.
The Stade Velodrome serves the club as their home ground. Located in Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhone, France the stadium has a net capacity to hold 67,394 spectators.
The current net worth of the club is 211.50 Million Euros.
