Player-of-the-Match P Saravanan helps SMP defeat Trichy in TNPL 2023
P Saravanan was the star of the show as Siechem Madurai Panthers defeated Ba11sy Trichy by 7 wickets in the 21st match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) on Thursday. Saravanan took 3 wickets for 23 runs in his four overs, guiding his team to an easy win.
Trichy won the toss and elected to bat first, but they were all out at 105 in the 19th over of the game. Saravanan was the pick of the bowlers for SMP, picking up the wickets of Daryl Sundar Ferrario (21), Jafar Jamal (1), and R Rajkumar (0).
In reply, SMP reached their target with 18 balls to spare. Opener Suresh Lokeshwar top-scored with 32 runs off 39 balls, while Swapnil Singh and Washington Sundar made 25 and 18 runs respectively. Jagatheesan Kousik also chipped in with a useful 19 runs off 17 balls.
Saravanan’s performance was all the more impressive considering that he is a left-arm orthodox bowler. He was able to extract a good turn and bounce from the Salem wicket, and he also bowled with good control. He was particularly effective in the middle overs when he picked up two of his wickets.
Saravanan won Player of the Match for his efforts. He is now one of the leading wicket-takers for the SMP in the TNPL. SMP is now jumped to the 4th spot in the TNPL table with 3 wins from 5 matches.
Saravanan’s performance was a timely reminder of his talent. He is a very capable bowler who can be a handful for any batting lineup. If he can stay fit, he will be a key player for SMP for the remainder of the TNPL season.
