PCB Chief Najam Sethi condemns playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium! Says Chennai and Kolkata were still better options

Pakistan Cricket Board’s Director Najam Sethi added further more tension in the Asia Cup-World Cup saga which is yet to be resolved. A couple of days ago, reports broke out regarding the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

The unofficial news detailed the venues and matches of the teams which have automatically qualified. While the opening match will feature last edition’s finalist England and New Zealand at Gujarat and the final too will be at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

There was information about Pakistan’s matches as well. The Green army will reportedly see their league matches take place in South-India (Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore) as that particular region is relatively safer. Other than these 3 cities, Pakistan will play the mother of all rivalries against India at the World’s Largest Cricket stadium.

An Indo-Pak match generates plenty of viewership both off and online. The 70,000+ capacity stadium is expected to witness audiences turn up in large numbers. But PCB Chief Najam Sethi has passed on his thoughts and said that he is disappointed with the stadium selection.

Sethi despite living in a country which garners Terrorism, should not speak about the safety issues of a state like Gujarat which is considered a Development model for states in India. Sethi also took an indirect dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying that “You know who rules Ahmedabad”.

“I don’t want to go into the politics of it but certainly there seems to be a political angle to this because if there’s one city where we might have security issues, it’s Ahmedabad. And therefore, I think the less said about that, the better. It gave the impression that this was a red herring that was thrown in our way to tell us, ‘hey, we are going to play you in Ahmedabad and you watch out. You know who rules Ahmedabad.”
