Five years ago, on this day, the Bangladesh cricket team won its first bilateral ODI series against South Africa. South Africa toured Bangladesh in 2015 to play three ODIs, two T20s and as many Tests.

South Africa clinched the T20 series by 2-0 but Bangladesh bounced back in the ODI series and won the series against the Proteas even after getting defeated in the first ODI. The third ODI was completely dominated by Bengal Tigers as they outclassed South African team in all three departments and folded them to paltry 168 runs.

Bangladesh batsman chased that target in 13.5 overs.

On this day 5 years ago, Bangladesh picked up their first ODI series win against South Africa. #BCB #RiseOfTheTigers” BCB tweeted.

In the match, Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar were involved in one of the best partnerships in ODI cricket history as they accumulated 154 runs.

This is certainly one of the biggest dates in Bangladesh cricket history as beating the mighty proteas instilled a strong belief in them. Bangladesh cricket has come a long way since.
