Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs De Gea despite goalkeeper’s latest error

In the post-match conference against Watford, Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defended the Spanish shot-stopper David de Gea for his horrendous mistake against the relegation battling Watford.

The Norwegian manager told the media that it was just one of the things from Numero Uno as Red Devils suffered a 2-0 defeat against Nigel Pearson’s men. Ismaila Sarr and Troy Deeney put the Hornets in front in the early stages of the second half to ensure their first home win of the battling 2019-2020 season.

The loss comes as United’s first in their seven games across all the competitions. However, the Premier League defeat has put Manchester United further behind in the top-four race and they sit 8th in Premier League tally.

Despite the unnerving defeat against the 20th place Watford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hopeful about David de Gea and said that he still has confidence in the Spanish international. In the press conference, he said;

“It’s one of those things,” He’s been so good in training and focused.

“One goal is a mistake and the second is penalty. David’s been very confident lately and I don’t look at it any other way.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also gave his point regarding the match. The manager didn’t want to think about the loss but wanted to move and improve from the match which concluded at Vicarage Road.

You have to earn every point on the pitch and today we didn’t deserve that. I can talk about it all day long. We have to face the fact we have two games coming up that we have to improve on.”

The Norwegian manager also defended Manchester United’s attacker Jesse Lingard who had the best opportunity in the first half to score the goal after a through ball was played to him. Rather than criticizing the England international, Ole defended the player by,

“Ben Foster stood up so I don’t think a chip was the right option,” he added. It was a good run, we could have been 1-0 up but it happens.

Sometimes you miss the target and sometimes you score”
Manchester United got their No.6 back on the pitch, Paul Pogba, who came of the bench against the Hornets. However, he couldn’t break the defense of Watford which was determined to win the match. Manchester United will face Newcastle United on the 26th of December at Old Trafford where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be itching to be back on the winning track.
