The experiment of Bazball didn’t work in the first test match, and this clearly shows that the traditional approach towards Test crickets is certainly better. Maybe that is the reason, we have not seen any Bazball show from the side of England in the second test match. However, even after not following the Bazball path, England looks under pressure in the second test match, because they are really not looking in form. Australia has already given the lead of 221 runs, and they still have eight wickets in hand. This shows that Australia has a great chance of winning this match.
England’s performance in the 1st inning
The performance of the English bowlers was certainly fine in the first inning, but the batters were not able to contribute well. England only scored 325 runs in the first inning. That means they would need to score really well in the second inning to win the test match.
Batting strategy in the first inning
There is no doubt about the fact that in the first inning, England did try Bazball show in the first half of their batting. By looking at the scorecard, it is clear that initially, England tried the Bazball strategy, but it didn’t work. So, to save the wickets they started playing test Cricket in the traditional manner. Stokes scored 17 on 58 deliveries, Bairstow 16 of 36 balls, and Broad 12 of 24 balls. Slow batting by these experienced players, clearly shows that in the later half, Bazball was not followed by the batters.
Road ahead
There is no doubt about the fact, that Australia is going to give a big target to England. So, the English team would need to ensure that they get them out as soon as possible. So, that they can chase the target within time.
Now we only need to wait for a couple of days, to find out the result of the match. Currently, it looks like Australia has a much better chance to win the Test match.
