MSK Prasad Comments on the Rayudu Situation

The All-India Senior Selection Committee announced the Indian squad for the West Indies tour. The Committee met today in Mumbai to take some tough decision and decide on the Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming tour of West Indies. India will be touring the Caribbean island from 3rd August to 3rd September to play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Tests.

MSK Prasad while announcing the squad was also questioned on the Ambati Rayudu situation, which became rife and saw Rayudu bid adieu to International cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL) at the end of it.

He clarified on the selectors’ stance on Ambati Rayudu and how even the selectors go through multitude of emotions.

“How much emotions have gone through anybody, the same emotions have gone through the selection committee. When we pick any player and he does well, we feel so happy for him. Similarly, when somebody, out of emotions, goes out in this way, selection committee members also feel for him. But having said that, with regard to the decision that was taken it was completely devoid of any biases or favouritism. From the beginning, we have been telling why we have picked Vijay Shankar or Rishabh Pant or Mayank Agarwal. It’s related to the Rayudu case also.

“When Rayudu was picked for ODIs on the basis of his T20 performance, there was criticism, but we had some thoughts about him. When he failed the fitness test, this selection committee backed him and we put him for fitness program to be fit to play for India. However, due to certain combinations, he wasn’t picked but it doesn’t make the Selection Committee biased,” explained Prasad.

Rayudu was left out of the Indian squad for the Cricket World Cup 2019, which got the Hyderabad batsman agitated and he took a dig at BCCI and the selection via a tweet.

He was then even snubbed and not considered for selection despite India suffering injuries and the Number 4 spot being open, back again for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He then went on to retire from International cricket.

Earlier MSK Prasad announced India’s squads for all the three formats, touring West Indies from August 3, up until September 3, 2019.
