Matthew Longstaff is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Premier League Club Newcastle United. The 19-year-old Newcastle midfielder made his first debut for the Newcastle in 2019 Premier League Club against the Leicester City in a 5-0 defeat. Despite a bad start he over-night became the trending name upon social media sites after he netted the only goal against the Manchester United in a win by 1-0 and thereby emerged as a sensational debut winner.
EARLY LIFE
Matthew was born on 21st March 2000, Rotherham England to David Longstaff and Michelle Longstaff. He belonged from a sporting family, his father was a former Great Britain ice hockey player while his mother was a former netballer, his own elder brother Sean Longstaff is also a footballer who plays with his him for Newcastle. His family was not only true fans of Newcastle but also were very fond of playing cricket, netball and ice hockey. Matthew following his brother’s footsteps decided to become a footballer and joined the club North Shields Juniors at a very young age to acquire a career in professional football.

Matthew Longstaff is the younger son of David, the former Great Britain ice hockey payer who had appeared in 100 matches for the national side and is currently active as a player-coach for the Whitley Warriors. His father is also the cousin of Alan Thompson who is an English former professional footballer who plays as a midfielder, he had made 550 appearances for si different clubs and was also capped by England against Sweden in 2004.

While playing for the North Shields his football skills exhaled, in no time he became of the best players among the junior squad of the North shields. While playing for the team he once, fortunately, was spotted by the Newcastle United after which his life took a major turn. Under his elder brother Sean, he got the proper guidance to get enrolment and develop as a Newcastle’s regular player. Matthew under his elder brother’s guidance and on his determination as well as will power on 17th July 2019 was signed for the Newcastle senior side. Matthew while playing from the junior side played a crucial role in conquering the 2019 HKFC CITI Soccer Sevens by defeating the Rangers by 3-4
Matthew made his first debut for the Newcastle on 28th August 2019 against the Leicester city but eventually lost the match in a subservient loose of 5-0 in the English Premier League, but in another match against Manchester United on 6th October 2019 he netted a crucial goal to solidify his team win by 1-0. Overnight he became the trending name upon twitter and various other social media sites. Expressing his emotions on his upon his first goal in a post-match interview Matthew said, “Last night you go to bed dreaming of it but you never think it will happen,” he said. “I’m over the moon, speechless. I found out I was in the team yesterday after training, the butterflies started going and I looked forward to it ever since I was buzzing.[The goal] was hit and hope and rather than a placed shot but it’s in the back of the net. You can’t describe the feeling, running away to the fans, it was so real. I thought my first-half shot was in but it hit the bar. That was a bit disappointing but to get the goal in front of Gallowgate, it’s that little bit special. Through the goal, Matthew became the youngest Newcastle Player to score on his Premier League Debut match.
