Match Official In The New Zealand vs England T20I Turned Out To Be A Porn Star

The England cricket team is in New Zealand at the moment. The visitors made a great start to the T20I series winning the first game comprehensively, but they were beaten in the next two games and ahead of the 4th T20I which is in progress at the McLean Park, Napier, they are trailing 1-2 in the series.

However, the spotlight at the moment is not on the players, but on Garth Stirrat who was one of the officials in the third match of the series. Stirrat was not in a decision making capacity as he was neither the on-field umpire, nor the third umpire.

He was only the fourth umpire, but he was still officially a part of the umpires’ panel and it’s surprising that the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) went ahead with him despite knowing his past.

According to the reports published in “The Sun”, Stirrat is a former porn star and has featured in the photo shoot of a porn magazine NZX and Brass under the name Steve Parnell, while he was working for New Zealand Golfers Association.

This is not the first time that Stirrat’s past has come back to haunt him. He held the post as the head of the New Zealand Hotel Council, but later had to resign because of the same photo-shoot mentioned above.

When asked about it, Stirrat said, “I have no comment to make on an issue from my very distant past and which I have no intention of relitigating.”

Stirrat has actually been a cricketer and has featured at the club level in New Zealand. After hanging his playing boots, he started his career as an umpire and has been officiating in the first class matches in New Zealand for the past three years. He has also officiated in the matches of women’s international cricket.
