Mamatha Poojary, an Indian professional kabaddi player who competes internationally, was born in the year 1986. Mamatha Poojary received the Rajyotsava Prashasti, the second-highest honor bestowed by the Government of Karnataka, and served as the former captain of the Indian women’s Kabaddi team.
In honor of her accomplishments in Kabaddi, President Pranab Mukherjee presented her with the Arjuna Award on September 2, of the year 2014.
Early Life
Boja Poojary and Kitti Poojary, who were farmers, gave birth to Mamatha Poojary in 1986 in Karkala Taluk, Udupi District, Karnataka. Tulu is her mother language. Mamatha Poojary is currently employed with Indian Railways’ South Central Railways Zone. Mamatha graduated from Shree Gokarnatheshwara College in Mangalore after completing her education in Hermunde and Ajekar.
Kabaddi Career
Mamatha Poojary participated heavily in sports during her time in school, including volleyball, short-put, and kabaddi. But the deciding factor was the love of kabaddi. When she represented Mangalore University at the international tournament held in Tirunelveli, her pursuit of Awards got underway. Mamatha Poojary took home the Gold.
Mamatha Poojary also took home medals from open kabaddi competitions held in Hingaat and Dadar. Mamatha was a member of the Indian Kabaddi squad that took home the gold medal in the 2006 South Asian Games in Colombo. Mamatha Poojary captained the Indian women’s kabaddi team and guided them to victory in the 2012 World Cup finals.
