KL Rahul Likely to Return for New Zealand Tests

KL Rahul has been in a stupendous white-ball form for quite some time now. His form certainly makes him a hot favourite to earn a place back in the red-ball squad despite being selectors bank on all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s fitness before picking ODI and Test squads for the upcoming New Zealand tour on Sunday. Rahul lost his place in the Test squad after the tour of Australia.

However, India captain Virat Kohli said that it’s difficult to leave a player like Rahul from any of the squad now. So, it can be expected that he could get the chance ahead of Prithvi Shaw or Subman Gill who was reserve Test opener for India during home series earlier. The other change in Test squad might see Navdeep Saini in place of Kuldeep Yadav. Since only one among Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja would be in the playing XI.

On the other hand, Hardik Pandya recently failed the fitness test and was not included in the India side as well. But the Indian team management is eagerly waiting for the all-rounder to become “bowling fit” for the upcoming series. In case, Hardik doesn’t get fit, selectors might choose the big hitter Suryakumar Yadav since the ODIs will be in New Zealand and ICC T20 World Cup will take place in Australia later this year.

On the other hand, there is also a possibility that India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane can be considered due to his better batting technique rather than Kedar Jadhav who is slowly losing his place in the squad.

Kedar is certainly not going to play 2023 World Cup and doesn’t even bowl now. Since he is not in T20, no point in carrying him to New Zealand. Possibly Surya or Rahane should be tried,” a BCCI source said to PTI recently.
