Kheta Ram Biography: One of the well-known athletes in India, Kheta Ram is a two-time finalist of Asian Championships. He finished 26th in the men’s marathon at the Rio Olympics and currently serves in Indian army.
EARLY LIFE:
The outstanding Marathon athlete was born on 20th September 1986. During his school days, Kheta Ram used to run every day to his school through the desert and is believed to run 4km on sand every day.
Kheta studied in a school which hasn’t been upgraded for over 45 years, and was as only till 8th standard. However, the Indian athletes defied all odds and today has become a household name in the nation.
PERSONAL LIFE
The 33 year old athlete was born in Khokhsar East, Barmer district, Rajasthan. Kheta Ram belongs to Naib Subedar of the Jat Regiment. He has 5 siblings (one sister & four brothers). Ram is the only earning member of his family. His parents and wife didn’t know that he was going to represent his homeland at the Olympics.
Kheta Ram is originally an army man and he was posted at Samba, Jammu. He sharpened his skills by training at the Army Sports Institute, Pune.
Ram belonged to a village where they always faced problems of water scarcity and also the roads were not concrete. He once told in his interview that he wishes to help his villagers and to solve the water issues in his village by winning in the Olympics.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE:
In order to earn a stable income, Ram applied for the India Army. He got enrolled through his general quota and was posted at Samba, Jammu. He has represented in the World Military Games. It was his coach, Surendra Singh, who told him that he should switch to marathon distance from track & field disciplines of intermediate distances.
He did his training in Pune to improve his heart & lung capacity in the thin air of Nilgiri Hills (Coonoor)/ Thangaraj Stadium in Wellington.
Ram represented his country at the Summer Olympics 2016. He qualified for the Mumbai Marathon 2016 with two Indian marathon runners.
