Josep Maria Bartomeu talks Valverde’s exit

Barcelona has parted ways with Ernesto Valverde and has quickly taken actions and has replaced him with Quique Setian.

Setian was a Real Betis manager and his side did defeat Valverde’s Barcelona at Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana Josep Maria Bartomeu president has challenged new boss Quique Setien to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.bartomeu-on-valverde-exit-from-barcelona

They subsequently settled on ex-Betis boss Setien, after a process labeled “ugly” by another icon, Andres Iniesta.

Bartomeu, speaking at Setien’s unveiling on Tuesday, admitted errors on the club’s board with regards to how Valverde’s exit was handled.

“We have known for a long time that the dynamics of the team can be improved, but the results were very good,” stated Bartomeu. bartomeu-on-valverde-sacking-from-barcelona

“I wish I had done things differently these last days.

“We are halfway through the season and we made the change because we needed a boost. We want to win La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa.

“[But] I would have liked for things to have been done another way.”

However, he insisted that the change was not a surprise to the club’s outgoing coach.

We were talking for a long time with Valverde. This is not a surprise to him. Changes were needed.”

New boss Setien, who will take charge for the first time against La Liga club Granada this weekend, took training for the first time on Tuesday morning.

He added: “I want to thank the club, I’m grateful to Barca for the opportunity. Not even in my wildest dreams did I think I would be here.
