South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen admitted that he was surprised after being nominated for the ODI cricketer of the year under CSA awards, early this month. Three cricketers who have been shortlisted are Heinrich Klaasen, Quinton de Kock and Lungi Ngidi.

Since Klassen made his return to the team, he has played three matches for the side. He became the Man of The Series against Australia where he played three brilliant knocks of 123, 51, and 68 in three games.

He expressed his emotion after getting nominated with the CSA award, stating that

“Obviously it’s a big honour for me. It’s my first nomination for the Proteas at the CSA Awards. I must admit though that it came as a big surprise because I only played three games. What I did in the three games against Australia was really special to me, the way I came back into the international fold,”.

He added that “So to get recognized in just those three games is amazing considering there are guys that have been doing well there the whole season and who probably deserve to be nominated ahead of me,”.

The right-handed batsman has played 11 T20 for South Africa.

He expressed his displeasure over not making the cut for the 2019 ICC World Cup but is happy for the fact that he has made a successful comeback in the side.

“The innings against England in the last T20 and then the innings’ I played against Australia, the way I came back after being left out of the World Cup having not played international cricket for quite a while, it was special for me,”.

“The willingness to actually go out and compete, the self-belief is back and hopefully that can continue when we get back on the park again,”. he concluded

The event will be held on 4th July 2020.
