ISL 2020-21: Rowllin Borges, Mumbai City man in the middle

Rowllin Borges played an instrumental role in sealing the chances of the island club towards the final where they will be facing Atletico Mohun Bagan on Saturday.

His journey in the last 12 months has been outstanding and his performance at the last moment for Mumbai City FC will give him huge confidence playing in the final.

“It still feels amazing…the feeling is amazing,” says a smiling Borges, reflecting on his sudden death penalty at the end of an absorbing second leg semifinal against FC Goa.

Borges has been benefitted a lot from it.  He is now playing along with top footballers of the country and their inputs have helped him a lot to grow as a footballer to a great extent.

“It’s the style I prefer to play in,” said Borges, referring to head coach Sergio Lobera’s possession-oriented football. “I have evolved a lot, especially with my passing and helping my team going forward and in the attacking third.”

With his performance in the ongoing edition of ISL, he is expected to be playing in the upcoming AFC Champions League and is talked about playing football the “Lobera Way”.

“I was a big fan of him [Jahouh] when I used to play against him. I still am. It’s a dream for me to play alongside him. It makes the role a little easy. Even if you don’t have a good day, if you have someone like Jahouh besides you, it increases your motivation and confidence,” Borges spoke of his teammate with whom he forms an ideal central midfield partnership at Mumbai.

It will be the clash of the titans for sure when the players from both sides including Ogbeche, Roy Krishna, Manvir Singh, Mandar Rao Desi, and Jhinghan will compete for their franchise to lift the ISL title on Saturday.
