Reigning IPL Champions Gujarat Titans registered a close victory against Punjab Kings last night to win their 3rd match of the season. It was not really a convincing win for them as the match was decided in the final over of the 2nd Innings. After winning the toss, Hardik Pandya elected to bowl first and restricted PBKS for a low total of 153.
When Shubman Gill’s opening partner Wriddhiman Saha was removed for a lightning-quick 30 off 19 during the powerplay, Shubman Gill was 17 from 9 balls. Despite playing into the Gujarat Titans’ chase’s final over, Gill’s strike rate of over 200 was the highest he would ever achieve.
GT still needed 6 runs to win when, on the second ball of the final over, he attempted a desperate heave across the line against Sam Curran and was clean bowled. According to GT captain Hardik Pandya, the defending champions would have had a “bitter pill” to swallow if it weren’t for a Rahul Tewatia lap over a short fine leg.
