IPL 2023 : There is a love story between Rahul Tewatia and Punjab Kings, says Batter Shubman Gill!

On Thursday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Sam Curran’s death-bowling prowess failed to deliver another last-ball thriller as Rahul Tewatia maintained his composure and secured a triumph for the defending champions. A cool-headed Tewatia used a carefree scoop over the short fine leg to secure Gujarat Titans’ (GT) illustrious victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2023 and thwart Curran’s attempt to pull off a robbery.

Tewatia hit back-to-back sixes against Punjab Kings last season when GT needed 12 from 2 balls after directing an amazing Sharjah night in 2020. In the just finished IPL 2023 game, India’s opener Shubman Gill played a brilliant innings of 67 off 49 balls against Punjab Kings to put Pandya and company in the driver’s seat before Tewatia added the finishing touches.

Even though Gill was determined to finish off the chase for the defending IPL winners, bowler Curran picked him off in the final over. After losing a nail-biting match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Pandya’s GT team got back on the winning track when Tewatia smashed the penultimate ball for a boundary.

When former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop brought Gill in for a brief interview, the star player not only discussed his outstanding performance but also singled out Tewatia for shattering PBKS’ hearts in the IPL 2023.

“I ought to have won the game. Kings XI and Rahul Tewatia are a romantic tale. Both teams are under pressure in these types of games. It involves making an effort to reduce dot balls. They found it challenging to score runs when playing old ball. It was crucial to have a strong powerplay.” – said Gill.

At the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, GT openers Gill and Wriddhiman Saha contributed 48 runs for the first wicket in the first five overs as they attempted to chase down Punjab’s 154-run mark. Gill top-scored for GT, leading GT to a 6-wicket victory over Punjab Kings while Saha was out for 30 off 19 balls.

For his outstanding bowling performance against PBKS, Mohit Sharma, who made his GT debut in the IPL 2023 at Mohali, was named the Player of the Match. “That box was checked. Not a big score, really. It was crucial to continue hitting singles. Mohit also appeared good in the nets. He’s got a decent yorker. With the slower one, he bowled beautifully while utilising the boundaries. was excellent. – Gill concluded.
