IPL 2023 : "Look at Shubman and Ruturaj", "Embarrassing technique!", Cricketing fraternity bashes Prithvi Shaw

23-year-old Mumbai born Batter Prithvi Shaw is being heavily criticized following his poor performance with the bat in Delhi Capitals’ first 2 IPL matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans respectively. DC suffered back-to-back defeats and concerns are raising over the competency of their Batting line-up.

In both the matches, DC were expected to have a good start through openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw but while the former has looked in good touch, Shaw only scored 19 runs in 2 appearances this season. Although these are the early days of the league but former Indian cricketers are calling their shots on Prithvi.

The Batter who was involved in a night club controversy a couple of months ago is struggling to get off the mark. Former explosive Indian opener Virender Sehwag did not hold himself back and had extremely harsh words for the Mumbai born batter.

Viru said that it is quite hard to believe that he played alongside Shubman Gill and even captained him during their U-19 World cup triumph in 2018 at New Zealand. He also compared the 2 batters saying look at Gill he is playing in Tests, ODIs but Shaw is still struggling to play well in IPL.

“Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL. He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season.”

Another former Indian batter and 1983 world cup winner Sunil Gavaskar also slammed Shaw for his poor technique and admitted that youngster should make good use of his back foot. “Once again that backfoot has done him in, it doesn’t move at all” – said Gavaskar.

Sehwag also added on his technique and reluctance to change himself by saying – “He has been dismissed playing those kinds of shots so many times…but he should also learn from his mistakes, right?”
